From the time he started working on the railroad at age 17 until his untimely death January 6, 2021, Conductor Frank "Watermelon" Campbell's dream was to preserve and present the history of the first and greatest mass-transit system of these United States of America. Even at the 'young' age of 99, each day Watermelon proudly gave tours filled with the most amazing history, intriguing facts, interesting stories and of course his witty humor. He will be greatly missed!
As his surviving spouse, I too desire to carry on Watermelon's dream! We are thriving and pushing "FULL STEAM AHEAD"!
Thank you for the support of the members, visitors and community as we press forward to make improvements and add fun events to the museum. Look for stories about Watermelon and special exhibits at the museum, in future issues of the newsletter, on the website and face book.
We are always appreciative of monetary donations to help keep the museum in operation (501c3 tax deduction). We so much appreciate volunteers for special events and various duties, and especially to help with tours throughout the two buildings, Wanda Lee Dining Car, and railyard exhibits. Just call or come by for specifics.
Edna Campbell, President and Executive Director
